Lockdown Drill Update

This week’s low-intensity lockdown went well. As a reminder, the drill was intended to help staff and students prepare for a potential threat near campus. During the drill, teachers tested door locks, ensured window coverings were functional, and reviewed emergency response slides with students. We also verified the functionality of key communication tools, including pre-recorded PA announcements, ParentSquare urgent alerts, and our electronic door lockdown system. In the event of a real emergency, you would receive a text, call, and email from ParentSquare.

Senior Parents: Please encourage your student to check their email and Minga for their pre-scheduled counseling appointment.

Counselors are in our 2nd week of having our check-ins with seniors.  Our goal is to ensure graduation completion and a post-secondary plan for them.  We work together with the College and Career center to provide support where needed in the students’ post-secondary process.  We are giving students a Senior Check in sheet provided HERE.

Students may still be able to make an AP/Honors grade level change if space is available until September 18, 2026 without a Withdrawal on their transcript.  Students' grades will follow them to the new class.

College and Career Center

The MVLA College Fair at LAHS is less than 2 weeks away! Here is a link to the College Fair site, including the participant list, table map, and tips for attending the fair by grade level. We hope you and your student will attend! Here is the correct link to the CCC Weekly Bulletin. We have 14 colleges & universities visiting next week. Small group visits are a fantastic way for students to connect with admissions representatives, learn more about the institution, demonstrate interest, and ask any questions.

Our ACT workshops have been focusing on college application info and support. All grade levels are welcome to join. Please encourage your senior to come to the CCC, no appointment needed for help with post-secondary planning.

LAHS students are looking for part-time work! Are you interested in hiring students at your company or organization? Do you know of places that are hiring? Please send any leads to Laura.Duran@mvla.net. Thank you!

Wellness

We have a series of events coming next week. We are partnering with allcove Palo Alto to host a letter writing event in the wellness center on Wednesday, September 16th during ACT. Your student can take a mindful moment to reflect and write a letter to their future self. Writing is a mindful, reflective, and creative activity that can help with managing stress and improving mood. These letters will then be delivered at the end of the school year! Your student can sign up on Minga under Juan Arreola.

On Thursday, September 17th, our CASSY therapists, Neha and Raelani, will be outside in the quad for a lunchtime activity. In honor of suicide prevention month, students can come share a kind message, encouragement, or affirmation. Your student will get a piece of candy for participating. Please encourage your students to meet our CASSY therapists and shine their light!

Lastly, the Wellness Center team will be handing out otter pops in the wellness center on Friday, September 18th during lunch. We hope your student will come check out the wellness center and recognize that it's a space and resource on campus that can be utilized when needed!
Three promotional event flyers feature wellness activities and dates in September, including Dear Future Self, Shine your Light, and Treat Yourself Otter Pops.
