Los Altos High School was pleased to partner, once again, with the Los Altos Police department (LAPD) to promote bicycle and e-bicycle safety to our students. This week, during ACT, the LAPD presented to students the basics of bike safety. Their presentation is linked here. |
Next Wednesday, 9/9/26, we will conduct a low-intensity lockdown drill to help staff and students prepare for a potential threat near campus. During the drill, teachers will test classroom door locks, ensure window coverings are functional, and review emergency response procedures with students.
We will also use the drill to test key communication and safety systems, including pre-recorded PA announcements, ParentSquare urgent alerts, and our electronic door lockdown system.
Families will not receive a ParentSquare notification indicating that a drill is taking place. In the event of an actual emergency, families would receive a text message, phone call, and email through ParentSquare with important information and updates.

I want to thank the parents who showed interest in serving on the LAHS School Site Council this year. We have three people to choose from and two openings. Please read the statements on the linked Google ballot and vote for two people to represent parents. Remember, there are openings every year which means there are more opportunities to serve so please look for openings to apply/reapply in August.
As a reminder, the School Site Council serves the students and the school by:
- approving the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA), (also our WASC goals) with parents, teachers and support staff;
- implementing and monitoring the SPSA;
- evaluating the SPSA to see if SPSA goals are met
Members of the SSC:
- attend the meetings 4 times a year from 4:00-5:30 in the student services building
- represent the school; and
- actively participate in SSC responsibilities

AP Registration opens September 14th! Students interested in taking AP exams should review the registration information and resources that will be shared with families through ParentSquare on September 14th. This information will include step-by-step registration instructions, helpful resources, and the complete AP exam schedule.
The 2026–27 AP Exams will be administered over a two-week period, May 3–14, 2027. We are also excited to share that World Language AP exams will now be fully digital, bringing an exciting new change to the AP testing experience.
Students can request their AP Classroom access codes directly from their designated AP teacher.
Important: Accommodations
Families who would like to request College Board-approved testing accommodations are encouraged to begin the process as soon as possible. CollegeBoard's average processing time for accommodation requests is approximately 7 weeks from the exam date, so early submission is strongly recommended. Accommodation requests are completed with the student's school counselor.

This week, School counselors started a 15 min check-in meeting with every senior on our caseload, where we focus on graduation status, college entrance requirements completion, and their postsecondary plan. Our check ins will run until October 7th. |
The deadline for the 1st round (Early Decision, Early Action, Restrictive Early Action, etc) to request a letter of recommendation from counselors will be September 8, 2026, by the end of the school day. Students can find the form linked on the counseling page on the LAHS website. |
Students are able to request a grade level change, with space permitting, until September 18,2026.

The Club Day sign-up form is now open! This year's Club Day will be on September 17th-18th in the quad during lunch. All necessary information about participation is outlined in the form as well as the most recent club senate meeting slides. The last day to submit the form will be Wednesday, September 9th. Athletic Registration
Please follow the online Athletic Registration Guidelines found on the LAHS Athletics Website. All athletes need a current physical. Physicals are good for 1 calendar year.

Wellness
September is suicide awareness and prevention month. In honor of this month, we will be hosting a suicide awareness and prevention workshop to students during ACT in the Wellness Center on Friday, September 11th. Your student can come and learn the facts, statistics, warning signs, and how to talk to someone who might need help. Suicide awareness saves lives by reducing stigma surrounding suicide, helping people recognize warning signs, and connecting those at risk with resources and support. Please encourage students to sign up on Minga for “Wellness Center - Suicide Awareness Workshop” under Juan Arreola.

The District Attorney’s Office has kicked off its “Justice for All” Award Art and Design Contest - Kids Helping Kids: Creating Art to Comfort Victims.
All eligible County high school students are invited to create a design that will be transformed into a plush toy or other comforting item for abused children seeking services at the soon-to-be open South County Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC).
All art mediums are welcome: paint, pencil, charcoal, photography, etc. Designs should reflect the CAC’s commitment to creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for children and families. Students should submit their finished piece as a poster or an image file.
All entrants will win a prize ranging from money to Starbucks gift cards. The first-place winner will receive $1,500 and their work will be prominently published on the District Attorney’s website and used in an upcoming campaign to raise awareness about the CACs and ways the community can support children and families impacted by abuse. The second-place winner will receive $1,000, and the third-place winner will receive $500. The top three winners will receive their prizes at an awards ceremony at a later date. Artist entries must be submitted by Friday, January 8, 2027.
