Fire Drill, August 19

We’ll be completing the first of our two required fire drills next Wednesday during ACT. Students will be notified through the daily news announcement on Monday so they know what to expect and are not suprised by the drill.

Track & Field Renovation

The track and field renovation project is officially complete! We think the space turned out great and hope you do too. We’re excited for our teams to train and compete in the renovated facility for years to come. See the before photo on the left and current renovated field on the right below.

Parking Permit Applications

Applications for parking permits were sent out to all Juniors and Seniors on Tuesday night.  They require students to watch a video and answer questions about it. The parking permit applications are due on Friday, August 21st.

Technical Support

Please remind your student that they can receive technical support at school. We have someone available on-site M-F. Students just need to come to the main office. They can also email helpdesk@mvla.net. The helpdesk can assist with software issues (inc. difficulty accessing AERIES or Google apps) as well as hardware issues if the student is using a district-issued Chromebook.

Principal and Friends Coffee: Date Change

The Principal and Friends Coffee, scheduled for August 20 has been cancelled due to an unforeseen conflict. The first Principal and Friends Coffee is Thursday, September 17 from 8:30-9:30 in the student union. A separate reminder will be sent in advance of the coffee.

Seeking Site Council Members

There are opportunities to serve on the Los Altos High School Site Council (SSC) this year. We are looking for two parents/guardians to serve two year terms.

The School Site Council serves the students and the school by:
  • approving the Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) with teachers, students, and support staff;
  • monitoring the SPSA;
  • evaluating the SPSA to see if SPSA goals are met
Members of the SSC:
  • attend the meetings 4 times a year from 4:00-5:30;
  • represent the school; and
  • actively participate in SSC responsibilities

If you are interested in participating, please complete this form and your name will be placed on a ballot. Site Council membership by-laws requires confirmation by election, however, in the event that there are insufficient numbers of applicants to warrant an election, no election will be held.

Counseling Department

Schedule Changes

Counselors have been working this week on changing students schedules for non AP/Honors classes. If there are errors on your student's schedule, you would like to add a class to an open period or drop a class, given you have met minimum requirements, you may request a “schedule change” for the 2026-27 school year.

Schedule changes are approved for the following reasons:
  • Fixing scheduling errors (Ex: same class listed twice, two classes in the same period)
  • Adding an additional 6th or 7th class *space permitting*
  • Dropping a class, given minimum requirements are met

We will not be able to make changes based on:
  • Teacher preference
  • Period preference (e.g., free 7th period)

AP and Honors Changes

Starting Monday, August 17th students can begin having conversations about dropping an AP/Honor class. It is important for students and teachers to have a meaningful conversation about concerns about an AP/Honors Class. We want our students to be successful and to remain challenged. If the teacher and the student agree that the student should drop, they will be given the “Student Schedule Form” from their teacher that will need to be signed by a Parent/Guardian to confirm they agree with the change and then bring a signed form to their school counselor. Changes will only be made if space permits. All non AP/Honors classes should still be submitted through the Schedule change electronic form
