2026 "Wholistic" Teacher Nominations Due May 22

CLICK HERE TO NOMINATE A TEACHER

We need your input once again! For over 20 years, the "Wholistic" Teacher Award has honored teachers who not only challenged and motivated students in their classroom, but also showed interest in their students' activities and lives outside of class.

To qualify, a teacher must be an instructor at Los Altos High School for at least two years (including the current school year). In addition, in order to recognize the many great teachers we have at LAHS, the teacher must also not have won the "Wholistic" Teacher Award in the previous five (5) years. The previous five year winners are:

2020-2021: Tory Johnson, Babak Shahrivar, and Jacob Sproule
2021-2022: Krista Greksouk, Nancy Moran, and Adam Randall
2022-2023: Jasmine Mark, Craig Seran, and Sasha Kassel
2023-2024: Lauren Diez, Roger Kim, and Toni Smith
2024-2025: Kelly Coble, Adriana Sanchez, and James Stiltner

Please help us continue the tradition of awarding another fantastic LAHS teacher with the "Wholistic" Teacher Award by filling out the survey below. Students, parents and teachers are all welcome to make nominations. Winners will each be awarded $500 and their names will be inscribed on a plaque outside of the library.

"Wholistic" Teacher Award submissions due by 3 PM on Friday May 22, 2026.

Student Event

Wellness

Next week we will be hosting our final events in the wellness center this school year. The first is our mandala suncatcher event on Wednesday, May 20th during ACT. Your student will have the opportunity to use paint pens to paint the panels of the mandala suncatcher.
Mandalas are therapeutic and help with reducing stress because of their circular, symmetrical designs that promote a meditative state and encourage mindfulness. Your student will then be able to take their suncatcher home to hang by a window and watch the colorful light patterns.
Your student can reserve their spot on Minga under Juan Arreola.

In honor of mental health awareness month, we will be hosting a mental health awareness workshop on Friday, May 22nd during ACT. Your student will have the opportunity to learn about the importance of mental health awareness, the statistics on teen mental health, and strategies and tools to take care of their own mental health. Each student will receive an infinity cube fidget for attending. Your student can reserve their spot on Minga under Liz Cho.

Senior Prom Reminders

Senior Prom is here! Before tonight, we want to share a few important logistics and a reminder of our school's safety expectations so the evening is a celebration everyone can enjoy.

Safety Policy — Zero Tolerance
Los Altos High School maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding alcohol and controlled substances at all school-sponsored events. Please take a moment to review this policy with your student before Saturday:
  • Any student believed to  be intoxicated or in possession of prohibited substances will require  a parent or guardian to pick them up immediately, regardless of the hour.
  • School rule violation(s) will result in consequences that may impact participation in end-of-year celebrations. This may include suspension from school and/or other activities.

Your partnership in reinforcing these expectations makes a real difference. We're grateful for your support in keeping this night safe and memorable for the Class of 2026 and their guests.
Note: Students with prom tickets received a confirmation email with similar information to their MVLA account. If your student did not receive a confirmation, they do not currently have a ticket.

For full day-of details -  including arrival windows, venue address, drop-off instructions, and check-in procedures — please see  SY25 LAHS Senior Prom Information & Logistics

We look forward to a wonderful evening with your students. Thank you for everything you do to support them.

MVLA Speaker Series

After over 15 years, the MVLA Speaker Series will be wrapping up its program. During this time, dedicated teams of volunteers have invited and hosted an impressive array of speakers who have addressed parenting, child, and community issues. All of this was made possible with the generous support of the MVLA High School Foundation, the Los Altos Educational Foundation (LAEF), the Mountain View Educational Foundation (MVEF), and the Los Altos Mountain View PTA Council (encompassing all the PTA units in LASD, MVWSD, and MVLA). Unfortunately, as speaker costs have risen and attendance has dropped, it has become apparent in the last few years that resources may be better used elsewhere. We are so proud of our volunteers' work and grateful for the support of our funders and attendees over the years. Thank you for supporting parent education in our districts.
If you are interested in attending other local speaker events, please see:
