Throughout each school year, the MVLA Board of Trustees recognizes the achievements and accomplishments of selected students: MVLA Students of the Month.
Students are selected for this honor based on a variety of factors. A prerequisite for selection as a Student of the Month is outstanding academic achievement, defined as a weighted current GPA of 3.5 or higher, although other factors may be considered in the selection process.
These other factors may include but are not limited to extracurricular successes, community service, character values, involvement on campus, exemplary leadership skills and/or outstanding accomplishments outside of school. Students of the Month shall exemplify the core values, qualities, and vision of the MVLA District.
Some examples of past Student of the Month recipients include academic scholars, presidents of active clubs, multiple sport student-athletes, and students who are widely involved in organizations on campus.
Broad school involvement is not a prerequisite for selection, but all Student of the Month recipients must demonstrate a positive work ethic, moral character, and an appreciation for our community’s diversity.

I’m pleased to share a few updates that reflect both the academic focus and strong sense of community on our campus.
As we move further into the spring semester, our students are preparing for AP testing, which is coming up soon. Across classrooms, students and teachers are working diligently to review material, practice exam strategies, and build confidence. This is an important time academically, and we’re proud of the effort and commitment our students are demonstrating as they get ready for these rigorous assessments.
At the end of March, we also celebrated one of our most spirited traditions: Clash of the Classes. The week was kicked off with an energetic rally that brought the entire student body together, followed by school-wide lunch activities throughout the week. These events encouraged friendly competition, collaboration, and school pride, helping to strengthen connections across grade levels and create a more unified campus community.
Last week, we also hosted a Junior Counselor Letter of Recommendation presentation, where juniors were guided through the process of requesting letters for college applications. This presentation provided students with valuable insight into how to effectively communicate their experiences and goals, helping them feel more prepared as they begin planning for their post-high school paths.
Looking ahead, we are excited for our School Award Night taking place this Wednesday. This event is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the achievements of our students across academics, leadership, and service. It’s always a meaningful evening for students, families, and staff as we honor the hard work and accomplishments within our school community.
Finally, we are preparing for SCL Eagle Recharge Week, beginning April 27th. This week will focus on mental health and wellness, offering students a variety of activities and resources designed to help them recharge, manage stress, and maintain balance during a busy time of year. It’s an important reminder of our commitment to supporting not just academic success, but overall student well-being.
Overall, our campus continues to be a place where students are engaged, supported, and motivated to succeed in all areas. Thank you for your continued support. (Written by Lucy Lai, Student Board Rep, LAHS.)

It has been an eventful start to the month at Mountain View High School, with many exciting activities already underway and even more to come.
Student groups and programs have been especially active. A major highlight is the Annual Student Art Show, which is currently on display in the library. Every student in art classes contributes a unique piece, from ceramic coil pots to intricate drawings, creating a vibrant showcase of student creativity for the entire community to enjoy. The Ambassadors’ COPA soccer tournament was also a success, with Team Guatemala winning it all in a spirited competition. In addition, we hosted another impactful blood drive in partnership with Stanford through our Health Careers classes, where each donation can save up to three lives.
Athletics are now transitioning into league play across multiple sports, and events like the Poetry Slam have further showcased student voice, creativity, and engagement on campus.
One of the most anticipated events currently underway is ASB’s Battle of the Classes Spirit Week. This year’s theme is elements, with freshmen representing wind, sophomores water, juniors earth, and seniors fire. Throughout the week, students will participate in themed spirit days, lunchtime activities, and class dance practices leading up to the Night Rally on Friday at 5 PM. The rally will feature performances, games, and friendly competition, bringing together students from all grade levels in a fun and unified atmosphere.
Looking ahead to May, we are preparing for Teacher Appreciation Week and the start of AP testing, both of which highlight the hard work of our staff and students.
Overall, it has been a spirited and engaging start to the month, and we look forward to all that is ahead. Thank you for all of your support. (Written by Claire Schwarzhoff, Student Board Rep, MVHS.)

The Board and Superintendent are delighted to acknowledge and commend Archana Upadhyay for her exemplary leadership, dedication, and commitment to the students, staff, and community within the Mountain View–Los Altos High School District.
Archana's passion for education has left a lasting impact across our district. Whether she's cheering on students at Spartan Pause, celebrating our educators at Teacher Appreciation events, or supporting Robotics and Dance Spectrum, Archana shows up again and again for our schools. She is also beloved for bringing her therapy dog, Mocha, to campuses across Mountain View High School, Los Altos High School, Alta Vista High School, and beyond—offering warmth, encouragement, and more than a few smiles along the way.
Her leadership extends well beyond campus visits. Archana served for several years on the district's Measure E Committee and has been an active leader with the MVLA High School Foundation for five years, including terms as both Vice President and President. She also serves as Chair of the Board for the Girls Middle School and volunteers with Canopy, continually finding new ways to strengthen our schools and enrich our community.
On behalf of the entire MVLA community, thank you, Archana, for your tireless service, generous spirit, and heartfelt dedication to our students. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition!
