LAHS has a new website!

Our district recently moved to a new website platform that refreshed the LAHS website as well. Most content transferred over successfully, but a few items may still be missing or need to be updated.

If you come across anything that seems incorrect or cannot be found, please email Jeanine.Seagraves@mvla.net so we can look into it.

Student Wellness

Next week we will be hosting a board game day in the wellness center on Wednesday, March 18th during ACT. Play is an essential aspect of social wellness for all ages as it naturally creates opportunities to connect with others, engage in perspective taking, and practice communication. It also helps to reduce stress through the release of endorphins when experiencing something fun or pleasant.
Please encourage your student(s) to take a break, bring a friend, or meet someone new while playing some fun games!
Your student(s) can reserve their spot on Minga under Juan Arreola.

Counseling Department

Please check your Parent Square emails this week and through the end of the school year for important messages from the counseling department regarding course enrollment for next school year as well as senior announcements. Later today families will be receiving verification of their student's course selections.

This week junior interviews continued. All juniors are receiving a copy of the MVLA College Counseling Handbook (printed courtesy of the MVLA Foundation) and are introduced to the College & Career staff to learn about upcoming workshops and opportunities related to their postsecondary interests.

For students who are looking for ways to get involved on campus and in the community, we encourage them to check out the LAHS Clubs List and the CCC Weekly Bulletin.

Summer School Information:
In-Seat Summer School assignments are being mailed home by mid-April, but all students may view assigned summer courses in Aeries as counselors assigned from February through May. If you are assigned to a class and need to change it or are going to be gone for summer school, see or email your counselor by the end of April.

We continue to focus on offering ACT workshops covering college-related topics for 11th graders. This past week, we shared an overview of Letters of Recommendation for College. You can view the slides here. For more info and links to the LAHS Brag Sheet and student agreements, please view the LAHS College Application Quick Guide

Next week during ACT, we will start a three-part Common Application, personal statement writing workshop series (3/18, 3/25, 4/1). Encourage your 11-grader(s) to register here, space is limited. If you haven’t heard, the personal statement prompts are remaining unchanged. You can view the announcement & prompts here.

Everyone is welcome to join the NACAC Virtual College Fair, 3/15 (Sun) 10-3 PM. Colleges and universities from the US and worldwide will be ready and waiting to talk with you.

Everyone is also invited to the virtual MVLA Countdown to College event on Tuesday, March 24th from 6-8:15 PM. Click on the link to get an overview of the live sessions, or view popular presentations from previous years. Don’t miss the Student Voices panel, where you will hear from current MVLA seniors and recent alumni.

Seniors should receive decisions from all the colleges and universities where they applied this month. The CCC staff is here to answer questions and help with next steps. Kudos, as the Class of 2026 has already matched the Class of 2025’s percentage of financial aid applications and surpassed the number of CalGrant awards. Students can still complete a FAFSA or CADAA; the community college priority deadline is Sept. 2. All seniors must complete a financial aid application or the MVLA Opt-Out form for senior clearance.

Athletics

Congratulations to all of our Fall and Spring Award Recipients!

Please click the link to view the comprehensive list submitted by our coaches. The list is available on our athletics website.

What a comeback! Our Girls Varsity Softball team demonstrated the true meaning of perseverance and never giving up. In their game against Westmont on Wednesday, March 11, the team trailed 6–2 heading into the 6th inning before rallying to score 10 runs, securing an impressive 12–6 victory. It was an incredible performance and a great example of determination and teamwork.

Sportsmanship Athletes of the Week
We will be piloting a new recognition program with the support of our coaches to highlight sportsmanship each week. Coaches will select student-athletes who demonstrate outstanding character, honor the game, and represent the principles of Pursuing Victory with Honor. These athletes exemplify the values of respect, integrity, and positive competition.
