Dear Eagle Families,
At Los Altos High, and across MVLA, student wellness is a priority.
We believe that students learn best when they feel safe and connected. We also know that academic success and personal well-being are intertwined. When students are emotionally, socially, and physically healthy they’re more able to participate, build friendships, and work through challenges.
Student wellness means creating a campus environment where: - Students feel a sense of belonging.
- Mental health support is accessible and normalized.
- Adults are available to listen and guide.
- School safety is actively maintained and continuously strengthened.
- Healthy choices are encouraged and supported.
We continue to invest in wellness supports and prioritize strong relationships between students and staff. We work closely with families because supporting young people is something we do together.
If your student is ever struggling academically, socially, or emotionally, please reach out to us or one of the community resources listed in this link. Early communication allows us to respond with care and intention.
Thank you for the trust you place in us each day. Together, we will continue to prioritize the well-being of every student.
Sincerely, Tracey Runeare, Principal |
Eagle Escape, our on-campus wellness space, is open to all students during school hours. It offers a calm environment where students can take a break, practice self-directed regulation strategies, or connect with a trusted adult for support. Students who visit during class time will be prompted to return to class after 15 minutes; if a student is not in a position to return, they may be referred to a school clinician for further support.
The Wellness Center also hosts activities during ACT, such as mindfulness breaks, mental health workshops, painting, music, and more. |
School-based mental health services are available for students who are experiencing behavioral, emotional, or social challenges that impede learning. Services may include 6-12 weeks of group support, individual check-ins, 1:1 therapy with school-based treatment goals, and/or assistance in making referrals to outside agencies for on-going, long-term support.
Trained mental health clinicians are also available for drop-in and crisis intervention support during the school day. Students may speak to any adult on campus or visit the Administration office for drop-in support.
Non-emergency referrals to our school-based mental health team can be made via our Student Support Referral Form located online at bit.ly/mvlasupport-or- bit.ly/mvlaayuda (Spanish) or by speaking with any adult on campus. Please allow for a 48-hour turnaround time for the scheduling of an appointment (not including weekends and school holidays).
If you are in crisis or if you have a mental health emergency, DO NOT complete this form and instead seek immediate help by calling 988 or texting RENEW to 741741. |
LAHS is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all students, including transgender and gender-expansive students, by maximizing inclusion and social integration while minimizing exclusion and stigmatization. Students and families are encouraged to reach out to their assigned administrator if they have any questions or concerns regarding gender support strategies, privacy rights, and/or complaints of discrimination or harassment. Gender support meetings are available for students and, if appropriate, the student’s guardians to identify student needs. The gender support meeting can address issues related to facilities (restrooms, locker rooms, etc.), academic or educational support programs, preferred names and pronouns, educational records, extracurricular events such as field trips, and/or co-curricular activities such as sports. Administrators will work with students to determine the most appropriate support. |
To wrap up the month of February, we will be hosting a wellness workshop on self-compassion and positive affirmations on Wednesday, February 25th during ACT. Students will have the opportunity to learn how self-talk impacts mood, motivation, and confidence and how using healthier self-talk can improve emotional well-being. Self-compassion and positive affirmations are practical tools your student(s) can use to help them build a kinder inner voice. After the workshop, students will have the chance to create their own positive affirmations star jar. Your student(s) can reserve their spot on Minga under Juan Arreola. |

Junior Interviews will begin when we return from winter break. Students will receive an email from the counseling secretary (Ms. Vallado) letting them know of their appointment day and time a week in advance. Students can reach out to her or their counselor if they’re aware of a potential conflict (other appointment, in-class assessment, etc) and need to reschedule. School counselors are meeting with juniors for these appointments to provide them a physical copy of the College Counseling Handbook and discuss their future plans/goals. We are also encouraging juniors to sign up for their college advising appointment with Mrs. Price.

Dr. Amber Woodward serves as MVLA’s CTE & Dual Enrollment Specialist, playing a vital role in expanding opportunities for our students.
What does Dr. Woodward do? - Secures external grant funding to help cover the nearly $3 million required to operate MVLA’s Career Technical Education (CTE) programs.
- Manages detailed reporting for state, federal, and private grant programs to ensure compliance and continued funding.
- Partners with teachers to help them earn and maintain their CTE credentials, which require specialized coursework and recent industry experience in their field.
- Works closely with local community colleges and MVLA teachers to provide dual-enrollment courses on our campuses, which gives students the opportunity to earn both high school and college credit.
- And much more to support career-connected learning.
Dr. Woodward’s position is made possible through donor support, and we are deeply grateful for the impact her work has on our students’ education. |
Community members can use the EV chargers on campus outside of school hours, including 4:00pm to 6:00am on weekdays and all day on weekends and school holidays.
In addition to the existing chargers in the faculty parking lot, new charging stations are now available in the auxiliary parking lot next to the track.
These new stations were donated and installed at no cost to the school by George Lee, founder and CEO of OPF Energy in Los Altos and former CEO of PowerFlex Systems.
Instructions are posted on each station. The charging rate is $0.20 per kilowatt hour. For questions or feedback, contact George Lee at George@opf.energy. |
