No Food Deliveries on Campus

To help maintain campus safety, food delivery drivers are not permitted on campus. Please support us by talking with your student and making sure they understand they should not order food deliveries to school.

If food is delivered to campus, it will not be delivered to students and may be discarded.

We also need students to be considerate of our neighbors. Students should not request that delivery drivers drop off orders at nearby homes.

Guest Speakers

LAHS was fortunate to welcome Dr. Brian Conrad, a Stanford University mathematics professor, as a guest speaker in our Trigonometry and Math Analysis class earlier this week. He shared an engaging introduction to elliptic curves and how they support modern cryptography, connecting the Elliptic Curve Composition Law to the security tools we use every day.
Students also learned how the elliptic curve composition law creates a way to add points: a line through two points meets the curve at a third point, and reflecting that point across the x axis defines a new point and a group structure.
On Friday, Dr. Lernik Asserian, Stanford University professor of mathematics, presented on trigonometric functions and their connection to LIDAR and self driving cars.

Award announcement for 'Tutors of the Month!' featuring Raphael Olteanu and Allison Ding.

Tutors of the Month

Raphael Olteanu: Raphael Olteanu was nominated for Tutor of the Month by Mrs. Yu. Raphael tutored Trigonometry last semester and helped many students. Mrs. Yu stated “Raphael comes consistently to ACT to tutor students and patiently explains the math and asks clarifying questions.  Students learn to do the problems step by step with him and then improve their understanding.  They really appreciate working with him and keep coming back.” We are grateful for Raphael’s support!

Allison Ding: Allison was nominated for Tutor of the Month by Mr. Mok. Allison has been tutoring in an AP Chemistry classroom since last semester. Mr. Mok stated that “Having Allison in my 3rd period Honors Chem class is like having another chemistry teacher. She will be able to explain concepts to students and check their work for accuracy. I was gone one day last week, and even though I had a sub, Allison voluntarily went up to the front of the class to show the class how to do some of the practice problems and model her thought process. She is confident, competent, and approachable, and an exemplary peer tutor. ” We are grateful for Allison’s support!

Activities

RECAP: Twin Oaks - Taiwanese Exchange Students

This week, Los Altos High School partnered with Twin Oaks to welcome exchange students and give them the opportunity to experience life at LAHS. In collaboration with ASB and SCL, we hosted a Diversity Day that brought students together through traditional Taiwanese games seen at night markets or played as children, cultural food, character writing activities, and interactive challenges. The event celebrated cultural exchange, inclusion, and community while creating meaningful connections between students from different backgrounds.

Student Elections

Student election campaigns run until February 11. Students will vote on Wednesday, February 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Students in 9th-11th grade will receive an email with their unique link to their ballot. The ballot can only be accessed once, so students need to be ready to cast their vote before opening it. Make your voice heard and remember to vote!

Per the ASB Constitution Voting Procedures are as follows:
  • For any position with more than 2 candidates, ASB uses rank voting to determine the winner.
  • For the ASB Executive Cabinet Offices (ASB President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Activities, and Clubs Executive positions) there will be a weighted rank voting as follows:
  • Votes from the general LAHS student body in grades 9-11 will count for 65% of the vote. These are all 9-11 students not in ASB.
  • Votes from students enrolled in ASB Leadership will count for 25% of the vote.
  • The advisory staff panel will count for 10% of the vote. This panel includes the Principal/Assistant Principal overseeing ASB, Activities Director/ASB Advisor, an Administrative Assistant, the ASB bookkeeper, and one other staff member.

Leadership Class Info: ASB & SCL

Students who are interested in being considered for an appointed (non-elected) position in the ASB or SCL Leadership courses may do so through a Leadership Course Lottery. This pathway is separate from the student election process.

To be considered, students must complete both of the following steps:

  1. Add ASB or SCL to their course requests in Aeries, with a non-audition course listed as an alternative.
  2. Complete the Leadership Contract Application with a parent/guardian signature and submit it to Ms. Alvarado or place it in the ASB drop box outside the Leadership Room. Students can pick up the Contract Application in the Office or outside the Leadership Room (2nd floor of Student Services Bldg by College Career Center)

Contracts due by February 27th to be eligible for the course lottery. Only students who complete both requirements will be eligible for the lottery selection process.

Kindness Week: Feb 23-27

Kindness Week is a week-long celebration focused on spreading positivity, self-care, and connection across our school community. Each day features a fun kindness activity and a spirit day designed to uplift others and ourselves, everything from decorating sunglasses and creating a school-wide kindness chain to sharing advice, visiting self-care kindness stations, and writing thoughtful letters to friends, staff, and family.
Throughout the week, students can also take part in interactive kindness activities like Be the “I” in Kind, Kindness Cupid, and Kindness Mirrors, reminding us all that small acts of kindness can make a big impact.

Wellness News

A flyer announces 'Letters of Appreciation and Gratitude' event on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at ACT Wellness Center.
We had a great time watching students create their own glitter jar to use as a coping strategy this week!
Next week we will be hosting a letter writing activity on Wednesday, February 11th during ACT. Your student(s) can write a letter of appreciation or gratitude to someone in their life.
Writing appreciation letters is a simple but powerful wellness practice. Research shows that expressing gratitude can improve mood, reduce stress, and increase overall emotional well-being by focusing on positive experiences and supportive relationships. Sharing gratitude can also help deepen connections with others and reinforce a sense of belonging.
Please encourage your student(s) to participate and reserve their spot on Minga under Juan Arreola.
