No Flying, No Tights: A Website Reviewing Graphic Novels for Teens

No Flying, No Tights: A Website Reviewing Graphic Novels for Teens

This site contains tons of reviews of comics, manga, and graphic novels. It was designed by a library technician who described the purpose like so: "I decided to create a page devoted to graphic novel reviews specifically for those who read them the most -- mainly teens -- and for those who might be involved in distributing them to teens -- namely teachers, librarians, and parents."

Casiopea finds a box of bones hidden away in her cruel grandfather's office and inadvertently brings them to life. The bones assemble into the body of Hun-Kame', rightful ruler of the underworld, Xibalba. He tells her she must help him reassemble the missing parts of his body so he can defeat his twin brother who imprisoned him many years ago. If Casiopea doesn't help him reclaim his throne, the bone shard embedded in her skin will kill her. She agrees, partly to save her life and partly to escape the oppressive household of her grandfather, where she is treated like a servant. Thus begins an epic journey that takes Casiopea and Hun-Kame' from the Yucatan peninsula to Baja, California. At different places, the two must battle demons in order to reclaim the missing parts of Hun-Kame''s body. The more time the Lord of the Underworld spends in human form, the gentler he becomes, which both weakens him and makes him more attractive to Casiopea. As his powers diminish, however, Casiopea grows stronger. But can she become the hero she needs to be to defeat the monsters of the Underworld? Silvia Moreno-Garcia has written a thrilling adventure story that's both an interesting historical look at 1920s Mexico and an imaginative fantasy that references Maya mythology. As exciting as the battles with demons are, the real joy of the story is seeing how Casiopea and Hun-Kame' come to understand and care for each other as they progress on their quest to bring balance back to the universe. @laclassof2022 @classof2021eagle @lahsclassof2020 @mvlahsd @lahstalon @lahs_clubs @redcrosslahs @girluplahs @lahs_f2cp @lahsasu @lahsblueocean @losaltosdecda @lahs_design.modeling @lahsfc @losaltoshighgsa @lahshackclub @_latinostudentunion_@laahssmentalhealth @lahs.nhs #amreading #bibliophile #booknerd #bookgram #bookstagram #bookphotography #instabook #Bookstagram #authorsofinstagram #2020books #YA #yabook #booklovers #bookworm #bookish #yareads #yafiction #idratherbereading #readersofinstagram #booksbooksbooks
