Reporting Absences

 

Contact the Attendance Office

Absences must be reported daily.
 
Parents are required to contact the attendance office as early as possible the day their student is absent  -or-  within two school days of an absence, at the latest.  When parents do not contact the school within two school days, the absences are counted as unexcused.  bsences will not be cleared after 48 hours.

In your call, please clearly state:
  • student's first and last name,
  • guardian name,
  • dates or class periods absent, and
  • reason for the absence.

By Email: 
We accept Attendance notifications from parents/guardians via email to lahs.attendance@mvla.net.
 
The message must be sent from the parent/guardian's email account that is already on file with SIS student contact information and include:
 
  • student's first and last name,
  • guardian name,
  • dates or class periods absent, and
  • reason for the absence.
 
 
Note:
- Phone messages may be left in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, or Chinese.
 
-Please call/email in advance to excuse midday appointments. Students leaving campus during the day to attend an appointment must check out through the attendance office.
 
-Students who become ill or injured while at school are required to go to the attendance office so parents can be notified.
 

Absence Types 

Excused absences – Absences due to illness, health appointments, religious holiday observances, death in the immediate family, jury duty, and school -initiated activities.
 
Unexcused absences – Absences that happen for any reason other than the ones listed above, including leaving campus without parent approva and participating in travel sports. Students may not be entitled to make up assignments and tests for unexcused absences. Family vacations are not excused absences.
